www.eastbaysmartsenior has remedies loneliness

There are so many committed and talented people working on services and projects to help people as they age. Recently, I met Susan Hamilton who is developing a smart phone app to help family caregivers who are caring for a loved one with Dementia or Alzheimer’s. Her company is called Care Better.  Below is the description she wrote for her project.

Caring for Someone with Dementia or Alzheimer’s

Susan Hamilton, Founder

Care Better

Alzheimer’s and Dementia caregivers are 16 million strong and will grow 40% in the next ten years.

Are you one of them? I could use your help testing our app. IT’S FREE AND TOGETHER, WE CAN DESIGN WHAT WE NEED TO HELP US DO THE BEST JOB FOR SOMEONE WE LOVE. Care Better connects those who care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. It’s a community designed just for us, to find the support we need by texting each other and finding non-medical experts to advise us along the way.

I created Care Better after not finding the support I needed when I was caring for my Mom. She became ill while living in Connecticutt. It took years of trips to become her conservator, obtain Power of Attorney, prevent financial ruin and finally move her to California, sixteen cross country trips in one year alone. I thought, “This is nuts. It shouldn’t be this hard.”

Test users will participate with your own smart phones at your convenience. Get answers to questions or simply find the intimacy of someone asking, “How did you sleep last night?” It’s a miracle really.

With your help, we can create a meaningful community of people who understand and the experts eager to help us. Whether you are far away from your loved one or live with them, we need you. Join us. We can’t wait to meet you.

She is looking for Beta users to test the app. Please contact her if you would like to participate in her project.
