At my Knit Club we discuss everything under the sun.  Last week one of the knitters had been to an emergency preparedness meeting in her neighborhood.  She had lots of suggestions for things we need to do to be better prepared, including packing a bag that will be ready to go when we have to evacuate because of earthquake, fire or other emergency.  I know that we have all thought about this and plan to do it when we have some extra time.  How about now?

The New York Times also had an article last week on go bags.  I am including that, too.

You will not need all of these items and there, are, of course, other things that you will want to pack.  Keep this bag in a place that is easily accessible if you need to get out of your house quickly.
